Reflecting on a beautiful evening of devotion and dance, the Hindu Temple Rhythms (HTR) dancers gathered at the Sri Subramanya Swamy Cultural Center (Murugar Kovil) in Farmington, Michigan, to celebrate Panguni Uthiram on April 1, 2026.
The air was thick with spiritual energy as we honored the divine deity Muruga, but the highlight of our hearts was the presence of our beloved teacher and Guru, Sudha Aunty (Smt. Sudha Chandra Sekhar, formerly Sudha Doraiswamy). At 85 years young, she continues to be the vibrant soul of our family, teaching us that dance is not just movement, but a lifelong prayer.
A Legacy of Devotion
Watching Sudha Aunty perform at age 85 is nothing short of a miracle. Her presentation of “Thangaradam Meedil” (seen in the video below) was a masterclass in Abhinaya and grace. Every gesture was a testament to her decades of dedication to the science of dance—a journey that began over 70 years ago.
As she stood before the deities, her performance was purely devotional, embodying the very essence of Bhakti. It is truly awe-inspiring to see her lead by example, showing her students and all of us that the flame of passion for the arts only grows brighter with age.
Our Deepest Gratitude
We are eternally grateful to the gurus who shaped Sudha Aunty’s path—the legendary masters of the Sri Rajarajeshwari Bharata Natya Kala Mandir in Mumbai, India. We offer our humble respects to the late masters of our art, and the entire lineage of the Thiruvidaimarudur technique. It is through their wisdom that we are blessed with the authentic tradition we practice today.
To our HTR families: Thank you. Your unwavering support and commitment to your children’s artistic and spiritual growth are what make these programs possible. Seeing our students share the stage with their Guru is a reminder of the beautiful, familial bond we share.
Watch the Performance
Please enjoy this excerpt from the program, featuring Sudha Aunty’s performance. As she dances, let us all be inspired by her emotion, grace, and the tireless spirit that defines Hindu Temple Rhythms.
May the blessings of Lord Muruga and the grace of our Guru be with us all as we continue this journey of rhythm and light.
