An Evening of Sacred Movement and Cosmic Rhythm
The Dance of Creation and Dissolution
Unity in diversity finds its most profound expression in the rhythmic cycles of the universe. On March 28, 2026, Hindu Temple Rhythms (HTR) invites you to witness Tandav 2026 – Shivaayana II, our annual prayer-through-dance presentation.
In the sacred lexicon of Bharatanatyam, Tandav is the divine, vigorous dance performed by Lord Shiva, representing the five manifestations of eternal energy: Srishti (creation), Sthiti (preservation), Samhara (destruction), Tirobhava (illusion), and Anugraha (emancipation). It is a “science of devotion” where every movement is a precise architectural element of a larger spiritual truth.
Rooted in Lineage, Performed with Grace
This year’s production continues a cherished tradition held regularly since 1996. Guided by the 80+-year practice of our Artistic Director, Guru Sudha Chandra Sekhar, our students bring to life the pristine dance tradition.
Having trained under the legendary masters of Sri Rajarajeshwari Bharata Natya Kalamandir, Guru Sudha ensures that HTR remains a repository of traditional Thanjavur Bharatanatyam—emphasizing subtle abhinaya (expression) and technical perfection.
The Sacred Connection: Mahashivaratri
In the cosmic calendar, this recital is timed to honor the profound essence of Mahashivaratri, the “Great Night of Shiva.” For the devotee and the dancer alike, Shivaratri represents the overcoming of darkness and ignorance through the light of consciousness. By performing the Tandav during this sacred season, our students engage in a spiritual vigil, channeling the raw, primordial energy that Lord Shiva unleashed to restore balance to the universe. As we celebrate the convergence of Shiva and Shakti, our movements become a living bridge between the earthly and the divine—a rhythmic meditation on the stillness that exists at the heart of all motion.
